Calibre
Been listening through Calibres' new 'Even If' LP after hearing a lot of the tunes on a live set recording. What a fucking brilliant piece of music! always had a lot of love for Calibre for his classical, soulful and vocal swing he brings to all his music. Deserves to fly off the shelves, this.

Views from Above
A selection of stunning photographs here taken from above the Earth. What a rare privilege it would be to be able to take in such magnificent views of our planet in person. I think my favourite is number 19, incredible. : )

Rebrands
Just seen the channel 4 rebrand idents. Really impressive, the concept and the design is very minimal and clean. I like how they've retained the use of alpha channels in blocks of the '4' from the last logo. They've also kept the white mattes from before, and added a grey solid to the mix. The introduction of the diagonal works too, it's movement works well as a device to distort the '4' and add dynamic to the animations. I'd never heard of Rudd Studio before but i've just been on their website and I love the work showcased. The branding they did for E4 was nice as well.
On the topic of rebrands, in the Comedy Central HQ we've just been watching the winning pitch for the US channel rebrand. If I'm honest my favorite brand exploration was the pitch from We Are Royale. You can view the demo reel on their website here, these lot are another team that are doing awesome stuff within channel branding.

Promax 2010

Went to the 2010 Promax awards Friday evening. Went such a good night, had a huge table with all the Comedy Central Creative squad, we managed to come away with three promo awards which is a brilliant achievement. I found the whole event really inspiring. As I don't have television or internet at home (yet) it was awesome to see all the best promos and ads from the last year. I found myself taking in a lot more of the cinematography and narrative than I usually do. (I often find myself focusing on the graphic design and art direction) I wonder if this is due to all the graphics i've been doing on promos at Comedy Central!? Brilliant evening anyway. Check the title sequence done by my classmate and buddy Phil Feeney. Absolutely smacked it.
Special congrats to Callum Parrish for bagging a best newcomer Gold. Ravensbourne alumni taking the industry by storm!

Woe To The Septic Heart

Great news over on FACT about Shackleton starting a new label for his own music. Mega excited about this, i've said before on this blog how much I adored all the Skull Disco era music and his explorations beyond into Mordant Music. Makes me want to start buying vinyl again. He's compiled the next Fabric Mix CD which i'll definitely be bagging.
Man eats beard

http://gawker.com/5688140/man-eats-his-own-beard-at-knifepoint-over-botched-lawnmower-sale Couldn't stop laughing about this yesterday. As I am currently growing a 'tache for Movember I may simply be finding facial hair related humour particularly amusing, however I'm fairly sure this story is just properly fucking hilarious.
